Why I Write

  • Regarding this exercise.

To be honest I've never really looked at my "why" for writing. I've read other author's answers to the question but never applied it to myself. I discovered a passion for writing back in high school when I would write poems to express myself as I was so shy and writing let me "speak".

So it started as a way for me to find my voice and progressed from there. I have to admit though that I have neglected my writing for the past year and did not realize how much I missed it until I started this site. I'm dying to get back to my novella and see if I can make it into a full length novel. The characters in that story I can still see in my mind as there is a bond between author and character that does not get forgotten with time, at least in my case.

I write because the story is there. Waiting to be told and shared with anyone that wants to come on that journey with me. Creating worlds, living beings, situations and resolutions and watching the story unfold in ways I had not intended at the beginning - well it's thrilling. I think it's this unknown of how the story will end that really drives me to write. That more than anything as I must know how these stories end.
