  • Back Blurb

    Shadows of a thousand years
    Rise again unseen.
    Voices whisper in the trees,
Nothing is ever as it seems.

Monsters exist, whether they be real or wholly in our minds. Some of us enjoy the fear of the unknown, the thrill of danger that comes from something we can't understand. Others like to delve into the deepest recesses of the human mind, to discover what lurks beneath an ordinary facade.

Whether you want to be afraid of what lurks in the dark, or to wonder about the evil surrounding you everyday, Half Past Dread has something for everyone. A Liliom Press publication, enjoy (insert number here) chilling stories from our spookiest authors yet!

    Casting Call Information

Want your name listed on that back cover blurb? Read on!

Basically, our publishing house is launching in August. The idea is to gather up author friends of ours who would be willing to write short stories in the thriller/horror genres, and do a Halloween anthology for charity. The book would be released on Amazon and major E-book retailer sites.

We will be doing blog tours and a book release party, things of that nature to help get more advertising so it would hopefully sell decently. If you are an author in the book who would like to do a takeover to introduce yourself and other work of yours, the more the merrier! As most book retailers pay royalties quarterly, any royalty payments would be forwarded to the charity of our choice, likely via a donation button on that charity's page once we get their approval to be featured. The charity will be listed in the book and associated marketing materials. So far we have a rescue charity we have sent a query to, which is a cause near and dear to our hearts. If they would prefer not to be associated with the anthology, we will donate to a suicide prevention/mental health awareness charity.

Liliom Press will cover the cost of editing, formatting, and a professionally designed cover. We may also go ahead and do custom bookmarks as well, for the print versions, and could put the charity logo or photos of the animals or something like that on them, as well as a link to where readers could learn more or donate as well. On the back would be the author names that were involved in the anthology. All proceeds from the book will go to our chosen charity, we will handle the advertising materials and setting things up for everyone.

    Submissions

We are looking for short stories, 10,000-15,000 words. As this is a Halloween anthology, they must have a heavy emphasis on a thriller/horror type theme. We do ask that, out of respect to the charity we've written to, that none of the stories feature a dog shifter as the villain type character or mental illness/suicide as a bad or shameful thing. If you'd like to be considered, please send a sample of your writing to info@liliompress.com with "Half Past Dread Anthology" as the subject line. Include a synopsis about what your Halloween story might be about, and what name you'd prefer listed. We will go through the submission queries and let everyone know ASAP if we're able to feature it in the anthology. The reason for the synopsis/query is simple... as this is a Halloween anthology, we don't want it to be filled with stories about vampires or demons or ghosts. We'd likely pick one story from each common "theme" to be added, so do try to come up with something a bit unique in order to secure your spot. If we love your writing but the idea has already been used by someone else, we'd let you know and see if you had any other ideas for a short story.

Full stories need to be submitted no later than August 1st. This gives us time to get it edited, formatted and print ready, because our cover artist will need to know the printed pages in order to create the cover spine. Any questions or concerns, please feel free to email as well. This is our first dive into a multi-author anthology, so we're learning right along with you. We'll do our best to find/figure out an answer if we don't have one right offhand.
