Helps me to read, edit, and still be as creative as I was during the first draft as...  moreI'm doing step five now (and I tend to after anything I write) and I always take step three even further by rewriting it entirely in a new document side by side. Helps me to read, edit, and still be as creative as I was during the first draft as well; plus I know where the story is headed now so I can change character dialogue and how I say something to better direct the reader where they should go.

      I feel my first draft is a lot like an old, cracked road; it could get the reader where they need to go, but it's bumpy and they might even break down along the way. What I have to do is repave it so it's a nice, smooth ride from start to finish and that's how I make my final draft.  less
